Founders & High Priests

Rennyo Shounin

The name was Kenju(the child name was Hoteima), the Priest name is Rennyo or Shinshouin. He was born in Higashiyama Ootani in Kyoto in 1415. His father was the seventh Enken Shounin of Honganji-temple. He became the eighth master of Honganji-temple in 1457. He was the restorer who traveled around the various regions to revive Isshuu Sect. He was deigned the priest name of Keitou Taishi by the Emperor Meiji.
