Tenjin

Sanpou Koujin

Appearing in Nyorai, roughness and wrath, he has ninety eight thousands demon attendants and subjugates the wicked. He is called Sanpou Koujin because he protects Sanpou(Buddha, the law of Buddhism, the priest). It has been said that this Koujin is the figure En no gyouja was transformed into in being granted his wish. It seems to have been created in Onmyou-dou, it has been believed since the end of Heian-era. Sanpou Koujin hates uncleanness and is worshipped in kitchens as the deity for fire. He has various kinds of forms, such as three faces and six arms, one face with four arms, or eight faces with eight arms.
